What we call “material reality” is, in truth, only a visual and sensory conversion, in which our perception has become trapped inside the three geometrical dimensions. Our senses were designed and formed to register separate bodies and material distances, as a necessity of undergoing the concrete earthly test. But the abstracting consciousness the Qurʾān calls for does not stop at the limits of the husk. It uses the insight of Abstraction to show you what lies beyond dense appearances. I found that matter is, in its essence, nothing but condensed energy, and that this energy, in its deepest reaches, is nothing but “the words of God”, cast into the womb of existence to take on bodily forms and shapes. From this standpoint, prayer in my philosophy is not merely a ritual of movements. It is a state of moment-by-moment attunement and harmony with the divine Encompassing in which we are immersed.
